Stories

From all 66 books of the Bible

From creation to Revelation: 237 stories, and every one of the 66 books appears at least once. The narrative books with many stories, the letters and prophets with a few, carefully chosen.

Each story is our own retelling based on the King James Bible, in German on the Luther Bible of 1912. Nothing is added that changes what happens. All stories have been reviewed theologically.

Two to four minutes to read aloud. No moral at the end and no quiz, only the passage to look up in the Bible.

Pictures

Large pictures for every story

Every story opens with a large picture, and more appear between the paragraphs. All in one style, with fixed characters: Moses looks the same in every story. People look the way they did in the Middle East of that time. God is not shown as a person but as light. No blood, no weapons in use.

The pictures are being made right now. Until then the app shows calm placeholder landscapes, as you can see here.

Learning to read

A typeface for beginning readers

The text is set in Andika, a typeface made for children who are just learning to read: an a like the one taught at school, a g with a single bowl, letters that are easy to tell apart. Set large, in short, calm lines.

Short sentences, words a four-year-old understands. Unfamiliar words like ark or prophet are explained in the sentence. The text size can be adjusted in three steps.

Read aloud

A woman or a man reads the story aloud

The large gold button at the bottom of every story says Read aloud. A female and a male narrator, both warm and calm, made for children; the spoken words of the characters get voices of their own.

20 stories can be listened to for free, in both voices. All other recordings are a one-time purchase: €9.99 per voice and language, no subscription. Reading the stories and looking at the pictures stays free.

The app shows children no offers to buy anything, not even hidden ones. Buying happens only in the parents’ area behind the parental gate.

Coming soon: the recordings are being made. Until they are ready, there is nothing to buy in the app.

Day and night

Evening sky for the bedtime story

In the evening the page turns night blue, the text cream, the gold a little lighter. It does not dazzle when the lights are already off. The app follows the phone’s setting, or you choose day or night.

How it reads

The beginning of a story, set the way the app sets it.

Mark 4:35–41

Jesus Calms the Storm

Evening had come. All day long Jesus had been talking to crowds of people by the lake. Now he said to his friends, “Come, let us go over to the other side.”

They sent the people home and got into their boat. Other little boats came with them. Jesus sat down at the back. He was tired. He laid his head on a pillow and fell asleep.

The boat rocked gently over the water. But then the wind began to blow. Just a little at first, then more and more. The wind howled, and the waves grew high, higher than the boat. They crashed over the side. Water poured into the boat, more and more water.

The friends of Jesus were fishermen. They knew the lake well. But they had never seen a storm like this. They were very frightened.

And Jesus? Jesus was asleep.

The story continues in the app.

Questions from parents

What parents often ask

What age is the app for?

For children aged 4 to 8. The little ones listen while you read aloud; children who are learning to read can read on their own with the large type. Difficult passages such as the plagues or the crucifixion are told, but without cruel detail.

Which denomination is it for?

For none in particular. The stories tell what the Bible says, without denominational interpretation and without preaching. They suit families, congregations and Sunday school alike.

Why are there no rewards?

Because a Bible story is not a game to win. Stars, points and daily streaks keep children on the screen, not with the story. A story that has been read gets only a small gold mark, so you can find your place again.

What does the app cost?

Reading the stories and looking at the pictures is free, for good. 20 stories can also be listened to for free. Only the other recordings cost anything: €9.99 once per voice and language, no subscription. The app shows children no offers to buy; purchases are only in the parents’ area behind the parental gate.

Does it work offline?

Yes. All stories are inside the app. Once installed, it can be read in the car, on holiday or without Wi-Fi.

What happens to our data?

Nothing. The app collects no data, needs no account and sends nothing to us. What it remembers stays on the device and can be deleted under “For parents”. The details are in the privacy policy. Privacy
